In memory of Jane Cameron, a talented artist with Down syndrome, and in recognition of her contributions to the arts, in 2001 the Jane Cameron Archives Committee (JCAC) and the Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS) established an annual award for a person with Down syndrome who displays expertise in an area of the visual arts.

Are you an artist with Down syndrome? Do you like to make art, like drawings, photos or paintings? Do you make videos, write stories or poems? Apply for the Jane Cameron Award! Jane Cameron was an artist with Down syndrome. She liked to make tapestries, paint and write poems.
$500 just for you, and a medal based on Jane Cameron’s art made by Jeff deBoer, a celebrated Canadian artist.
Representatives from JCAC and CDSS will evaluate the submissions and agree upon a recipient not later than April 30 each year. The recipient will be notified. The award is made each May at the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Down Syndrome Society. The winner does not have to be present to receive the award.

How to Apply
Please submit a sample of your art and a completed application form to CDSS before the deadline, April 16, annually. Submissions will be returned if a self-addressed stamped envelope with sufficient postage is provided. Please ensure applications contain the following:
